Amazonian manatee (Trichechus inunguis)

The Amazonian manatee (Trichechus inunguis) is an aquatic mammal found in the Amazon Basin of South America. It is the smallest of the three extant species of manatee, reaching up to 3 meters (9.8 feet) in length and weighing up to 500 kilograms (1,100 pounds).

Amazonian manatees are herbivores and feed on a variety of aquatic plants. They are an important part of the Amazon ecosystem, as they help to keep plant populations in check.

Unfortunately, Amazonian manatees are listed as vulnerable by the IUCN due to threats from habitat loss and hunting. Conservation efforts are underway to protect these gentle giants.
